Today was the type of day where sometimes all you needed to do on your lunch break was go off somewhere and get a nice cup of coffee, sit a a table, and think. So, Selina Kyle was doing just that. Sure, in all likelihood, she should have been sitting at her desk and eating, but Elizabeth was nice and actually let her go out. Perhaps it was in exchange for all the late nights she had stayed behind to keep her company while she looked over some particularly difficult or disturbing case files.
She ordered her unnecessarily complicated drink, took it from the Batista, and grabbing a copy of the newspaper, sat down at a small table alone. There was never any good news in the paper, she'd learned, and working at Elizabeth's office didn't really have to read the paper to know what was going on.
She took a sip of the coffee, beginning to think. She was dangerously close to being behind in her rent, and she couldn't very well ask for a raise- that just wasn't polite, especially one week after transferring from the security firm. It was bad enough that she had to pay to feed herself, the hundred-some strays that came into her apartment and she was too kind to turn out- not to mention Isis- but she had to keep her utility bills up to date, cloth herself, and ride to work every day. It was getting impossible, even though she only bought clothing when she needed it.
Of course, the choice on how to pay those bills was obvious. Who said she couldn't revert back to her old ways, pick up her whip again and get back on the old horse? There was enough money in being a dominatrix again, especially with the addition of the money she was making from being a secretary. But that would result in the girl getting no sleep again, like she had in college. Besides, she'd been scared straight after that one psycho the night Dr. Crane went insane. She had blood on her hands now, she couldn't go back. She didn't want to go back.
But she needed the money! She took another sip, pondering this predicament. Of course, she could always sleep with her landlord again, but that was exactly what she didn't want to do again in the first place. Fuck, she needed the money-! And what was she doing, then, drinking the nice, three-dollar-a-cup coffee when she could get it for free at the office? Stupid waste of money.
But it helped ease her mind none the less, she realized, taking another sip. She liked having people prepare nice coffee for you using fancy equipment you didn't have. It made you feel nice.

Eve walked along the sidewalk, she needed some coffee and she needed to get away from the department. She was tired of having to pretend she even liked these people nor what they stood for to begin with. She was glad to be out of there and far enough that she really didn't have to listen nor see a cop around.
She walked in and ordered some odd chocolate hazelnut with a hit of what ever coffee just to get the hit of caffeine she needed. She then grabbed a bagel and walked outside. "No where to bloody sit in this bloody town" she muttered looking around for a free table.
As she continued to look she noticed a girl with dark hair sitting by herself at a corner table and reading the paper. Who reads the paper around this god forsaken town, anyway she found herself wondering but decided to ignore it. She wanted to sit down and drink her coffee and eat her bagel. She would have preferred to be alone but fate had something different in mind.
She made her way towards the girl and smiled as politely as she could. "Excuse me..." she said. Her British accent quite notable. "Would it bother you if I took a seat with you seeing there are no other available seats in the vicinity..." she said gesturing slightly at the other tables that we're around.
((Sorry for the odd post next one will be better))

[It's totally fine!]
Selina looked up, torn out of her reverie by a polite British voice. She blinked for a second, deciphering what the woman had said before she finally reacted with a quick nod. "Oh, sure," she said, gesturing to the empty seat. "Be my guest."
There really were no other seats around, she noticed. Odd- there were a million other coffee shops in Gotham, so what made this one the most popular lunch-time destination today? Oh well, she had no real reason to dwell on it. Taking a sip of her coffee, she scanned over the page of her newspaper- nothing but disaster, but what could you expect for Gotham? Oh, and apparently a good theater review on page 9, but that was going to be overshadowed in lieu of whatever major explosion had happened five minutes ago. Sadly, that wasn't an exaggeration anymore. She would have liked to think she was safe from things like that now, working for a defense attorney like Elizabeth Connery, but that actually made her an even larger target by proxy. And, of course, the location of her apartment was known to be one of the most dangerous in the tri-metro area.
"I'm Selina Kyle, by the way," she said as an after thought. If they were going to share a table, then perhaps they should pretend to make nice and get along in the meanwhile. She looked at the woman for a moment, studying her before she spoke again. "You look familiar," she said, wrinkling her nose slightly as she took another sip of coffee. And she wasn't sure if it was a good familiar or a bad familiar. The 'good familiar' was generally someone from the Orphanage, or someone who'd helped her in the past. The 'bad familiar' was generally reserved for men whom she'd had the pleasure to, well, spend the night with, to put it politely. Clearly, this woman didn't fit into the latter of the categories, but there were still women in her past she'd run into and disliked them, or something like that. A fellow prostitute she'd had troubles with, like that. But something told her this woman had never had to resort to that, unlike Selina.

Eve sat down immediately after being allowed to and scanned the back of the paper. More bombs and more explosions. J must be having a blast or plotting something big she though just by the headlines. People we're tense every where she went. It was as though they half expected their worst fears to pop out at them and yell BOO! Gotham had been a mad house and she knew quite well seeing as she worked at the Police Department that was run by the newly appointed Commissioner.
Jim Gordon... good man... bad choice of profession was her thoughts on him. These we're rough times and it as a case of right place wrong time in her mind seeing as with these maniacs on the loose this was not the best or brightest moment to be caught in the spot light. She slowly took the cup to her lips and taking a sip quickly set it down. She had accidentally burned her tongue and a soft hiss followed by a low"Bloody 'elll.." marked the occasion.
Eve set the cup down on the table before the woman in front of her introduced herself as Selina Kyle. She looked her over and tilted her head slightly studying her... She nodded and spoke softly. "I work in the Gotham Police Department... maybe you've seen me there..." she replied to her comment on her looking familiar though she doubted anyone noticed her as is... no one noticed a detective or a beat cop when the commissioner is newly appointed and goes everywhere they go... or so she thought.

Oh, so that's where she'd seen her before. While Selina hadn't spent much time at MCU, she'd seen police to be sure. They were all over the place in Gotham in case someone decided it was funny to do something stupid. Like, blow up a building, or a bridge, or some innocent civilians. Bonus points if they did it in a funny costume. And they seemed to constantly be running around Alleytown, doing drugbusts, infiltrating prostitution rings (Seina had had a few near-misses there herself), and generally destroying criminals, that type of thing. Of course, often enough, Batman was a lot better at it than GCPD, but that was because he had surprise on his side. And a nifty costume. Kind of like the Spanish Inquisition.
She took another drink, swilling it around in her mouth for a moment as she thought of what to reply to the woman with. "I make it a habit not to spend too much time around MCU," she confessed. Of course, at times she had to- pick up files, fun stuff like that. But being incarcerated? Not her cup of tea, though she'd knew plenty of people who wound up there, and then to County.
Another drink, and she looked again at the woman. "I'm sorry, I didn't catch your name." Had she even said it?
[Sorry, really short.]

Eve's lips slowly tugged into a small smile when she heard the girls small confession. "Well, I make it a habit not to spend too much time down there either..."she admitted with a slight giggle before buttering her bagel and finally starting to eat it. She took a bite and it took her practically forever to chew it. It wasn't toasted by the looks of it so it seemed more like sh was eating gum than a piece of bagel.
She made a slight face at that fact and taking a napkin spat it out. "Well that's a bloody bad pastry..."she commented putting the napkin back on the plate. She heard the girl ask her name and she arched a brow, for in all honest truth she had not really given it and usually preferred not to. She sighed and extended her hand across the table. "Eva Vasquez... though I prefer just plain Eve..." she said in a slight friendly manner though her tone didn't seem that way.
She was trying to be polite and a bit open but it really never came out that way. She hardly ever smiled as is and back at the MCU people just figured she was angry about a case or the goings on of the City... they never imagined she just wished someone would blow the entire building back to hell.

Selina nodded, smiling at Eve's giggle. Cute, really was the only way to put it. "Intereresting, a cop who tries to avoid MCU..." It really was, but she said it in a light, more joking manner than perhaps one would have expected.
Eve's giggle was soon matched by Selina's as she watched her attempt to eat the bagel. You really think Gotham would know how to make delicious bagels by this point, but apparently not. She shook her head. "I wouldn't really call that a pastry, you know. It's more like baked good or... What's a fancy word for bread?" There really wasn't one- and technically, bagel was Yiddish for 'piece of round bread with a hole in the middle'. Oh, the fun things you learn when you worked on the streets for a few years! Sylvia had taught her that.
She reached across the table, being her regular friendly self and shook Eve's hand. "Nice to meet you, Eve." She had on her best-behavior-charming-secretary smile.
[Sorry, it's short. Work computers suck.]

The girl was joking... how fun... she thought at the light hearted tone she heard Selina use for her avoidance of the MCU. "Well it's never easy being a female on the force... with all those annoying males around you, except for Gordon... he's actually a good man... too bad he's the Commissioner he'll get loads of death threats now..." she said in a non challant manner. As if this was a normal train of thought.
She pushed the bagel away from her and shook her head. "Seems to me like more of a gum for chewing than a fancy bread in the lot.... is there no decent place for these things anymore." she shrugged her shoulders and drank her coffee once more. At least this time it was merey warm and not scolding hot as before.
"Oh and the pleasure is all mine Miss. Kyle..." she finally replied. "So... where exactly is it hat you work at..." she asked in a quite curious manner that only a cop would posses. She sat back in her chair and tried not to look as threatening as she could at times while awaiting an answer.

Selina nodded the entire time, frowning slightly at the mention of death threats. While she was not particularly inclined towards Gordon- she had watched from the shadows as he'd put her friends into jail, thinking the entire time that she was next- she knew he was doing the best he could, and that yes, death threats came with the job. That was the risk he had been taking when he signed on to join the force. Everyone knew that.
She shrugged. "How hard could it be to make bagels?" she wondered aloud. Really, you took dough, put it in a special mold (she figured), and baked it. Not too hard. Then again, she had never been particularly gifted in all things culinary. She could order out like no-one's business, however. She had the number for Nero's memorized, as well as perhaps 12 other different locations around the city that would brave the trip to her apartment. She could also make salad and grilled cheese rather well, but that was besides the point.
She took a sip of her coffee, using it as a way to avoid the impending interrogation she was feeling coming on. She swallowed the hot coffee, more nervous than ever- what was she supposed to do when a cop that looked vaguely familiar asked where you worked? "I'm a secretary," she said truthfully. "I work for Elizabeth Connery, the defense attorney." Another sip. "You can call me Selina, you know."

She had actually heard of Miss Connery just had never truly met her and seeing as she avoided lawyers to the extent she could she doubted she would ever have the pleasure of meeting her either. "Ah..." she said and took another sip of coffee. She looked around the place once more as it seemed to continue getting packed with people and shook her head. "Someone should tell those people that the bagel's 'ere are bloody useless..." she said her British accent quite noticeable.
Selina... she though placing the name to memory as she did. "That's a pretty name actually... Selina Kyle.. has a ring to it I say..." she replied more to herself than the brunette that sat before her. "Wait... if you work for an attorney... are you in the same firl as Harvey Dent was ... or is..." she made a face not really sure if he was an attorney or a politician all she was sure of was that the man actually gave her the willies for some odd reason.
She shivered a bit visibly and took another sip of her now warm and tasteless coffee. "Hmmm.. needs sugar... be back in a bit yes?" she asked and stood in order to hunt down some sugar in the place. She was guessing the girl had to be confused by her behavior but i was in her nature to be both inquisitive and unstable. She just could not stay in one place for very long nor did she want to.

For the brief moment where Eve said she had recognized her name, Selina panicked. In fact, the complement had gone right over her in favor of said panic. Shit- if a cop said they recognized your name, it was generally not a good thing. Though, even when she was little Selina had been careful not to give anyone she worked for her last name or anything that could identify her in the long run. She'd been a smart girl, despite her then-chosen path.
She sighed audibly however as she realized where Eve had recognized her name from. "yes," she said. "She's in his firm." In reality, I personally have no idea, but let's take this idea and run with it, shall we? Technically, Harvey Dent was still an attorney, he was just District Attorney. He did, after all, spend a large amount of time in the court room. And making speeches. Important things like that. She'd seen him around the office and he'd always had a smile to offer her, and she'd give him one back. He was a nice man, but she was sure it was mostly because he had to be. If word got around that Harvey Dent was a flaming asshole, well, there went his campaign. But he seemed genuine enough, and this is coming from a girl who'd seen her fair share of asses.
She nodded as Eve made to go get the sugar. "Sounds fine with me." Sugar was a good thing, naturally. She watched Eve retreat to go get sugar, and frowned. Odd- she wasn't used to getting questioned this much, and never had by a police officer. It made it much more worrying, and she had a constant fear she'd screw something up and say something she wasn't supposed to. Not likely. If she just maintained a cool and composed facade, she'd do just fine. It's how she got through half of her work before. Just fake it. Best strategy there was, so far.
